Mary Janes' doctors aren't talking surgery anymore. "This is the best exercise program I've ever done!"

Mary Jane says, "You don't have to change your lifestyle, and there's no pressure to lose weight. It's quick and accommodating. 20 minutes and I'm done... I'll stick with it!"
When you have medical conditions like fibromyalgia, osteopenia, and pelvic prolapse, you're going to be very careful about exercise. "Anything that's fast-moving and aggressive aggravates it," says Mary Jane (MJ) Bartee. That's what first appealed to her about slow-motion strength training. She discovered The Perfect Workout after seeing an ad in the paper. Surprisingly, her daughter owns a personal training studio, so it would be quite easy to work out there, but MJ says, "I've seen what they do with kettle bells!" One of the first people to join the Huntington Beach studio when they opened three years ago, MJ really appreciates the safe nature of it. She also likes the twice-weekly 20-minute workouts, the accountability, and the one-on-one training. MJ gives her personal trainer Huntington Beach, Michael, a lot of the credit. "He knows me and knows my condition. He makes adjustments, watches things, and encourages me. He's very understanding and supportive." Michael also keeps track of the amount of weight MJ is lifting, which she doesn't want to know anything about.
All that matters to her are the results, and they've been nothing short of spectacular. Like most people on the program, MJ has more energy, increased strength, and better posture. "From the get-go, I could tell it was going to work for me," she says. "It wasn't exacerbating anything." In fact, not only was it working along with all her medical conditions, it was making them better. Her most recent bone density test showed that her osteopenia is gone. The pain from her other conditions is more manageable, so she doesn't need as much medication now. And her pelvic prolapse has greatly improved, to the point where the doctors aren't talking about surgery anymore. "They're glad to see I'm doing something. I'm 68 years old and I haven't lost any weight, but that wasn't my goal. I'm still teaching part-time, very involved in my parish community, actively participating in the lives of my four grandchildren, and working in my garden. I spent the last two summers in Europe, and I make frequent day trips to visit family in San Diego. I still have the energy to do those things." The Perfect Workout has given MJ a new lease on life, and she plans to make the most of it.
MJ's advice for others, especially women who might be dealing with similar conditions? "You don't have to change your lifestyle, and there's no pressure to lose weight. It's quick and accommodating. 20 minutes and I'm done. Give it a try and give it at least six months. It's something I do for myself, and as long as I'm functioning as well as I am, I'll stick with it."
